A major U.S. city operates a sophisticated employment center for illegal immigrants and proudly promotes it on its official government webs site, which also allows residents to submit electronic requests for day laborers.
Officials in Austin Texas openly boast about their taxpayer-funded First Workers Day Labor Center, which annually hooks up more than 25,000 day laborers—mostly in the country illegally—with temporary jobs in the area. The city points out how valuable day laborers are to the Austin economy, about $1 million a year.
The 5,000 square-foot center is conveniently located adjacent to a major freeway and it features a coveted drive-through accommodation for those who want to hire an illegal immigrant on the run. A full-time bilingual city staff manages the operation and helps employers (most of which don’t speak Spanish) hook up with day laborers (most of which don’t speak English).
The city assures that there is no paperwork and never any fees to either party. This taxpayer-financed center is simply a safe place where customers and day laborers can come together and exchange work for pay in a well organized and supervised environment. Besides ordering workers online employers can also call ahead to request a specific day laborer.
The center’s official city web site guarantees that there are plenty of laborers available every morning ready to go to work. They possess skills in carpentry, painting, roofing, tile work, tree trimming and plumbing. The best part is, nobody pays taxes and a U.S. city openly helps promote a criminal enterprise.

Austin Day Laborer's Centers
There appear to be two Austin Day Laborer Centers:

How in the world does the city get by with promoting an illegal hiring center?? This breaks both, state, and federal laws. The hiring of illegals within our United States, is just that, illegal. It also seems that someone should be interested in employee taxes, and employer reporting of income???
Why is this being allowed to go on in our country???
The city of Austin needs to be sued.
Austin Day Labor Site
Can't wait until there's a "situation" and someone brings a hefty lawsuit for injuries, etc. that result "at" the site...the LEGAL responsibilty of the city, since they "own" the site. When the citizens start paying out settlements from lawsuits, they might get a clue about the REAL cost involved in looking the "other way" and not enforcing our laws.
Labor centers are everywhere
You will find these taxpayer supported aiding and abetting stations all over the country. The local cities are not afraid of the big bad feds because they support it too. Laws against this are toothless as are most of the local passed immigration ordanences. When laws are passed without severe penalties for non-complience or when they are selectivly enforced or underfunded, these are paper laws. As long as businesses caught and prosocuted for illegal hiring are only forced to pay fines instead of jail time, these costs will be passed along to consumers as "the cost of doing business". And so it goes, just like 10 years ago, like 20 years ago...

Austin's Day Labor Center
TITLE 8, SECTION 1325 - U.S. CODE
Under this title, "Improper Entry by Alien"," any citizen of any country other than the United States who:
Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as desginated by immigration officers; or
Eludes examination or inspection officers; or
Attempts to enter or obtain entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact; has committed a federal crime.
Isn't it amazing how many people, including our elected officials ignore this?
The Arrogance of the "Representatives"
You know what gets me about this stuff? The same thing that boggles my mind on the rest of the illegal immigration issue. That is, how the "authorites", whether your typical cowardly city council, assemblyperson, congressman, senator, or President--simply assume that doing things like catering to illegal aliens with taxpayer money is just "FINE" with the taxpayers. Actually, you know what, maybe it is, since so many of us seem not to give a flying cr-p about what the cretons do whom we put into office to supposedly "represent" us.(U.S.) So true the saying "we get the kind of government we deserve".

30 Years of Federal Deregulation
Corporate lobbyists, especially the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, donate financial campaign contributions to elected officials. Since the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the businesses they represent want cheap labor elected officials ignore the problem. This government corruption happens on the state, local, and federal level and is the main reason why Americans are fed up with their government representatives. However, there is a bigger picture here worth noting.
Free Trade Economics, which began in the 1980's with then President Jimmy Carter and has accelerated ever since is the main cause of all of this. Free Trade Economics is based on the premise that businesses do better economically when left with few government regulations. Corporate lobbyists have pressured elected officials to loosen regulations. Now, what all of us are currently witnessing is the banking and housing mess with subprime mortgages, which was due to the federal government deregulating banking regulations.
Corporate lobbyists, for close to thirty years, have donated financial campaign contributions to our federal government elected officials and now the problems have come home to roost. The deregulations of federal laws is effecting every government agency.
The party is over for our federal elected officials - they just don't know it yet. Register as an independent and steer clear of supporting party politics. Vote incumbents out of office. Show Washington, DC the party is over.
